I am very excited about the challenge that awaits in Kenya but why am I going?

Firstly, after many years of working ridiculous hours at a job I loved, it was time for a break. I ate, slept and breathed my job as the Head Teacher of a large, complex primary school.  The workload was hugely demanding and it had an inevitable impact on the rest of my life. So I took a deep breathe and  a career break. It has been wonderful!

Secondly, I genuinely want to make a positive difference.  Education can be the gateway to opportunity and progress both for pupils and teachers. I love teaching at every level and aim to empower my African colleagues.

Thirdly, I want to learn about Kenya – the country, the Maasai, the culture, the people and the challenges. It is an immense privilege to be allowed to live and work within an unfamiliar community.  I hope to make real connections.

Finally, I want to learn about myself. How resilient am I?  How adaptable?  How creative? How much am I willing to challenge my own thinking?
