I was really looking forward to returning to the school but it wasn’t the easiest trip to get here!

Firstly, I discovered by accident that KLM had cancelled my flight 5 days before I was due to leave. Alternatives offered were : a)travel without luggage b) travel to Amsterdam wait for 6 hours then travel to London and wait another 6 hours before flying to Nairobi or c)Leaving for my trip 24 hours earlier than intended. I chose the latter option.

Secondly, Bonface informed me that there was an airport workers strike. This had involved tear gas, batons and arrests when the security forces moved in. The situation was still very changeable – 48 hours before my expected arrival!

Thirdly, my luggage was filled with books and school supplies which stretched the baggage allowance beyond its limit and more importantly, I couldn’t even carry the cases by myself!

Finally, while transporting the cases to the car to head to the airport, one of the handles broke thus requiring a new suitcase to be found!

They all seemed like bad omens but luckily I’m not superstitious. I was determined to return to Osiligi and continue with our work.

Here at last!
