It was February 2012 and a fairly miserable day.  Then an email pinged in.  It was full of information about a new Global Teacher Project. A small group of Scottish teachers and Head Teachers would be selected, trained and sent to Uganda for a 5 week placement, during the summer holidays, to support school improvement in rural Uganda.  On return to Scotland, the group would lead Global citizenship initiatives, based on their experiences, in their own and other schools.

I knew instantly that I wanted to go.  I am usually quite philosophical – what’s for you wont go by you – but not in this instance. I talked of nothing else as I prepared for selection. My youngest son, Keir, commented on the day of the interview, “Good luck, Mum.  Though you wont need it. We all know you’re going to Uganda.  Even if it’s only as a stalker!”  Luckily it didn’t come to that and I was invited to join the project.
