Paul, Wasike, Catherine, Rispa

On our last night, we took some time to record the team’s evaluation of the trip.  Here are some of the highlights:

Daniel – I have seen so many new things and done so many new things that I will have stories for my family for years to come.

Daniel

Norah – I have worked here for a long time.  It hasn’t always felt that we were a team.  Staff who were not teachers, didn’t feel valued or listened to.  Now it has really changed.

Me with Norah

Amos – I have really enjoyed all the food.  I can’t believe we had meat every day!

Paul – Everyone says Christine is bad. But she’s not.  She’s good.  In fact, she’s probably the best person here! (backhanded compliment!)

Laban, Wasike, Fred, Wambua, Timothy

Wambua – I really appreciated our 200KS (£1.52) spending money.  I could buy coconuts and oranges to take home to my family. My wife has never seen a hairy nut! ( No comment)

Christine /Fred – We really appreciated that governors let us go on this trip and that Margaret and Bonface organised it.  We have had the greatest time of our lives!

Edgah – this has been my first time for a lot of things – the train, the sea, Mombasa.  I have started to save my money so I can come back!

Rispa – I have learned so much about myself.  For example, all these years I didn’t know I knew how to swim.  It is my new hobby!

Helen – I feel lucky to work with such good people!

Rispa, Eunice, Catherine

Catherine – It has been wonderful to be part of this team.  I hope we take all that we have learned back to our school.

Laban – I have learned that everyone is important and that everyone has their part to play even though we do different jobs.  No-one is more important than another!

Bonface – I first had the dream to bring everyone for a staff retreat to Mombasa, more than a year ago.  It has been very hard work to make it happen.  But it has definitely been worth it.  I am proud of my team!

As for me, there were so many highlights!  It was such a privilege to spend time with my Kenyan colleagues, observing their wonder at new things, their innate kindness and how well they took care of me and each other.  Each new experience was greeted with wonder, enthusiasm, a can-do attitude and gratitude.  There was no whining, bickering or complaining.  We definitely left Mombasa a stronger, more positive team!
